Irish Breakfast tea Recipe

The tradition of sitting down for a cup of strong black tea has been in practice for centuries. Tea time allows people to sit together and socialise, curb those carb cravings or just sit and relax to gather their thoughts. Tea time has often been accompanied by the likes of famous recipes of tea like Earl Grey, English Breakfast or the Irish Breakfast tea recipe. However, this tradition has evolved drastically over the ages, and so has the practice of drinking tea. As of today, tea is not just a beverage you savour early in the morning or evening, but something that you can serve when you plan a get together with friends and family. Plus, tea isn’t just relished simply with warm water or milk, but it has been revolutionalized into varieties of gourmet beverages. From cold brews to lattes, there isn’t any form that tea hasn’t taken yet. And one such beverage is a peculiar Irish Breakfast tea recipe, or as we like to call it- The Bubbly Irish Dame.

Ingredients

  • 200 ml Full Cream Milk
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 8 gms Irish Breakfast Tea
  • a pinch Himalayan Pink Salt
  • Whipped cream to garnish
  • a pinch Cinnamon powder to garnish
  • 200 ml Water

Instructions

  1. 1. In a saucepan, heat the water up to 90° Celsius and add Irish Breakfast tea leaves.

  2. 2. Turn the stove off and let the tea leaves steep for 4-5 minutes. Strain the tea.

  3. 3. In a clean saucepan, heat the milk, along with the sugar and salt.

  4. 4. Once boiled, pour the milk into a blender, along with the Irish Breakfast tea liquor.

  5. 5. Blend the entire beverage, for about 20 seconds or until it is frothy and bubbly.

  6. 6. Pour into two mugs, garnish with whipped cream and sprinkle with less than a pinch of cinnamon powder.

Recipe Notes

  1. You can replace sugar with any form of sweeteners like honey, jaggery or stevia.
  2. Though full cream milk is recommended, you can also use almond milk, toned milk or soy milk.
  3. For a stronger concoction, increase the brew time to 6-7 minutes.

Recently, however, this tea has become loved by many without milk and just a teaspoon of sugar.

Even though it is commonly known as the Irish Breakfast tea, the name of this tea is a misnomer. This means that it is an inaccurate name for the tea because this tea is consumed almost any time of the day and isn’t bound to just breakfasts. In fact, many Irish tea drinkers consume four to six cups a day!
