It is a morning ritual for most of us to wake up and grab a cup of piping hot tea before we begin our day. Tea boosts your immune system, and gives you the energy to face the impending day.
There is a variety of teas to choose from. Whether you need a heavy caffeine fix or a hint of flavour, there is always a type of tea available. However, the bounteous variety of tea isn’t just for show. There are some teas that if incorporated into our morning rituals, can help boost our immunity.
1. Green Tea
Varieties of green tea have been consumed for centuries for their beneficial properties. Green Teas are rich in anti-oxidants called Polyphenols. Polyphenols are efficient infection fighters. They protect the body against potential viruses, infections and sickness. Chamomile green tea is known to boost immune system of the body by de-stressing the body and mind. It promotes the growth of White Blood Cells, which are the biggest infection fighters. Oolong teas have an enticing aroma that is perfect for any morning. In comparison to green or white tea, it is high in caffeine, which is best to kick start you day and energise your body without letting it crash. The catechins present in oolong tea are essential in fighting against obesity and liver fat. Studies also suggest that 10 ounces of oolong in a week can reduce the levels of bad cholesterol in your body, therefore protecting your body against dangerous heart diseases. Considered extremely beneficial for patients of Type 2 diabetes, it works by metabolising the sugar. A cup of oolong immunity boosting tea in the morning pumps up your metabolism, making the start of your day light and fresh.
3. White Tea
The benefits of white tea are no secret. From chefs to medical researchers, everybody praises the sweet flavour and health benefits of this tea. Studies say that white teas are helpful in reducing risks of cancer and cardio vascular diseases. It is rich in polyphenols, tannin and flavonoids. The antioxidants work on protecting the various organs of the body, while also eliminate free radicals that can potentially damage blood cells, DNA and collagen. White tea may also provide some relief from diabetic symptoms by decreasing your plasma glucose levels and increase insulin secretion. Antibacterial properties of this tea can help fight against infections while it’s soothing effects aid in relief from insomnia, stress and fatigue. Incorporating white tea into our habitual morning rituals is a great way to reinforce your immune system and begin your day.
4. Black Tea
Also known as ‘Red Tea’, this is the most famous tea out of all categories. Largely consumed in the mornings, black tea is rich in antioxidants like polyphenols, catechins and flavonoids that help remove free radicals from the body to keep the body healthy and toxin free. Some catechins present in the tea help kill certain viruses. Black tea is known to be anti-cancerous and has bad cholesterol reducing properties. One of the major difference between black tea and all the other teas is that it contains minerals like Potassium and Manganese, which work incredibly to boost immune systems. The tannins present in black teas don’t just give it its characteristic earthy taste, but also help fight against viruses such as influenza (“the flu”), dysentery, and hepatitis. It also contains alkaline antigens, which help boost immune response. Flavours like Peppermint have traces of calcium, vitamin B, and potassium along with other anti-oxidants, which help your body absorb nutrients better and fight illnesses. Not only this, a cup of black tea in the morning is the best way to kick your morning lethargy away.
