While having a discussion with friends about the upcoming Mother’s Day, I realised how amazing and relatable memories we all have with our mothers.
So I thought of sharing them with you. Relatable for you or not, these will at least remind you of your own chai moments with your mother. That might even help you find a great Mother’s Day gift for her. In case you are a mother yourself, you will get to recall and cherish the sweet and spicy chai moments you have had in your life.
Enjoy the memories!
1. The ‘Exam Time’ Memory
This memory might be common for us all, but worth mentioning. It was my exam the next day. I hadn’t studied anything as always. But failing wasn’t an option. It was the last year of engineering and I had 3 backlogs to clear. Failing would mean a delay of one whole year to get that degree.
So, here I was dreading it all when my mom came into the room, with two cups of black tea to help stimulate my senses and help connect all dots of whatever I was studying. “That’s what I needed!” I exclaimed. Then, I asked her about the second cup she had brought, which she said was for her. She wanted to help me with my revision and hence, had to bid her slumber goodbye. She helped me the same way for various other exams. Studying became easier with just one amazing cup and the company of an amazing lady.
Now, if I think of it, Nidra, a sleep specialist from Teafloor’s ChaiSpa range would be the best Mother’s Day gift for her. It would help me repay her a bit, for those sleepless nights with the tremendously peaceful sleep one gets with a cup of Nidra every evening.

2. The ‘Long Mom-Daughter Conversations’ Memory
It was vacation break. I had gone back home from college with my circadian rhythm all over the place. A different routine as a living-in-hostel kid led me to not being able to sleep for days. One night, around 1, I decided to make myself a cup of tea, which I wasn’t good at making. My mother saw me fiddling with things in the kitchen; she came in and made us a great cuppa each. We sat with the cups and started talking just random stuff. The conversation, surprisingly, went on till 6 in the morning. Since then on, everytime I plan my return home, we look forward to such conversations. At least half of those nights I spend at home are certain to be spent talking with her with that awesome Kadak Masala she makes.
Pertaining to this lovely memory, a pack of Kadak Masala chai would be a great Mother’s Day gift for her. It would help us have more of those memorable nightly long conversations.

3. The Rainy Day ‘Masala Chai with Pakoras’ Memory
My close friends and I had planned a reunion. After delaying the plan again and again, a day was finalised. This again had to be delayed because it started raining heavily that day. I usually love when it rains, but this incident was upsetting enough for me to start hating it. Mom, who seemed to have read my mind, didn’t want that to happen. For which, she knew exactly what to do. She called the whole family and made Masala chai with some delish pakoras for us all. Then, she started talking about her work days while drinking that ambrosial tea. Soon we were all laughing and talking life while embracing these family moments. The warm masala chai, with its wonderful spices was warming my relationship with my mom and the rest of the family. Thank you mom, for replacing my to-be bad memory with such a remarkable one.
No wonder, I will be gifting my mother a pack of Masala Chai as a Mother’s Day gift. It would be like gifting her that wonderful memory she gave me that day.

4. The ‘Impressing In-Laws at Breakfast’ Memory
It was last year, I was newly married and wanted to impress my in-laws. Just a day before the wedding, I got to know that they are tea fanatics. So, I asked my mom to teach me her special English Breakfast tea recipe, as I knew it wouldn’t be possible to learn it once I leave home to live with my husband. She did and I impressed my in-laws in the daily-soap style. The one in which the new daughter in-law impresses her new family with yummy delights to savour on the first day in her new house. There was a difference though, they didn’t require the food to get impressed, my mom’s breakfast tea recipe was enough.
As a Mother’s Day gift, I want to gift her some different varieties of teas so that she creates more great recipes of her own for me to learn and cherish with both of my families.

5. The ‘Sick-Day Herbal Tea’ Memory
Here’s how my story goes. I had been suffering from fever for a week now, with no antibiotics helping. Being a studious student at school, the idea of missing a few more days of classes was not something that appealed to me. My days involved puking, crying and lying on bed. Not able to see my condition any further, my mother decided to bring herbal tea at my rescue. She started giving me 3-4 cups daily. In 3 days, my condition was immensely improved and the 4th day I went to school without any weakness. After this incident, whenever I feel sick, my mother knows what to do. She brings me a lovely cup of herbal tea and soon I’m cured. Maybe it’s just the placebo effect, but still, whenever I’m sick, herbal tea made by mom, always helps cure me.
In fact, whenever I see herbal tea anywhere, I’m recalled of all this and a ‘Thank You Mom!’ leaps out of my mouth. My Mother’s Day gift for her would be a pack of herbal tea as I want her to be healthy and fight sicknesses strongly forever.
— Me
The discussion would have gone forever, had not my mom been calling me again and again to tell me her list of stuff to buy from the market, and reminding me that it is late in the night. So, we had to end it.
However, these memories made us realise that whatever we are today, we owe it all to our mothers. And they deserve a lot from our side. A Mother’s Day gift would just be a small token of thanks for all the love and care and what not she has given to us.
